Q&A 2018-04-12T18:03:08+00:00

How can you afford to do this? 2018-04-12T18:03:11+00:00

We are beyond blessed that Brandon gets to work from his laptop as long as we have wifi. He does website design, marketing, and IT assistance for several clients. We would’ve still sold everything to travel for a long period of time even if he didn’t have this option. Rolf Potts explains how this is possible in his amazing book “Vagabonding”. If you want it bad enough, it’s possible! Obviously you’d have to do it differently than us, but it’s still possible to travel the world before you retire! Read the book to understand what I mean. And, no, I am not a sales rep in any way for Rolf Potts. I’m just a super big fan of the book!

Are you homeschooling the kids? 2016-09-29T05:05:31+00:00

Yes. Even though they are learning SO much just from the travels, we do 2-3 hours of school Monday through Thursday each week. To learn more about my perfectly imperfect way of teaching, click here.

What are you thinking?! 2018-04-12T18:03:11+00:00

We’re thinking there’s more to life than the mundane routine we’re all so accustomed to.  We’d like to see what else is out there. We’d like to know what it’s like to live in places rather than just visit and cram everything in a rushed vacation. We’d like to enlighten our lives by giving up our material possessions and indulge in life-changing experiences. We’d like our kids to learn about history, arts, languages, and culture by lots and lots of field trips! We’d like our kids to feel comfortable around people of other race and culture. And probably most importantly, we’d like our kids to know that their parents took risks to make their dreams come true!

What gave you this idea? 2016-09-29T05:08:38+00:00

Brandon and I have always had the goal to travel the world when we got older and after the kids have moved out. We thought that was the only option. We stumbled upon a brilliant book (“Vagabonding” by Rolf Potts) that changed our lives forever! (Read it! Like, now.)

What accommodations to you use? 2016-09-29T05:10:35+00:00

We do short-term rentals almost everywhere we go because we like to stay 2-4 weeks in each location. Airbnb.com has been our main source at finding rentals. In New Zealand, we rented an RV for a month. For our road trips around the USA, we became members of the IHG Hotel Chain and stayed at those hotels. So, it depends on where we’re at and how long we’re planning on staying!

What is your baggage situation? 2018-04-12T18:03:11+00:00

When we started:

1 Extra Large Family Suitcase
2 Adult Travel Backpacks
3 Kids Travel Backpacks
1 Portable Crib
1 Stroller

Now, after 1 year:

1 Large Family Suitcase
2 Adult Travel Backpacks
3 Extra Small Kids’ Suitcases

What transportation do you use? 2016-08-30T17:36:48+00:00

In Europe, we used public transportation 99% of the time. We rent cars for little road trips from time to time, but we try to depend mostly on public transportation.
